Stockholm restaurants and Swedish cuisine are far from famous. But you can eat very well in Sweden’s capital. You can choose between local and foreign dishes.There are many restaurants for every budget. However, the number of pubs and bars is limited.

If you travelling lover and don’t mind spending 100 dollars or more, visit Operakällaren. This restaurant is located in the same building as the opera house, at the corner of Kungsträdgården. It employs some of the most creative Swedish cooks and serves probably the best smörgåsbord in town.Stockholm has all kinds of restaurants. There is one for every budget.

The most expensive Stockholm restaurants are found in Gamla Stan and in the business district Norrmalm.All over town, you will find trendy eateries with loud music, and sometimes rather austere-looking places that serve Italian or Chinese food.

Birger Jarlsgatan (and surrounding streets) and the Södermalm district offer a wide variety of good restaurants. The personnel is reserved but accurate, the tables are clean, and the food – often a fusion of international and/or Swedish cuisines – is usually excellent.

If you want to have lunch for a best price according to your budget, watch for the sign Dagens rätt.This is the dish of the day. It is usually of high quality. Only eat it for lunch: if you order the same at night, you will pay much more.

Some Stockholm restaurants serve typical Swedish husmanskost for lunch. This is the Swedish food for the common man – or the average Svensson.Fast food and fast and best service are very popular.

Cheaper Stockholm restaurants often have a self-service counter.


A good place to eat if you travel on a shoestring is the restaurant of the Åhlens department store, close to Sergels Torg.Coffeeshops with delicious pastries and simple meals are good for a quick stop, a light lunch, or a snack.

Because of the strict alcohol regulations and high prices of alcoholic beverages, you won’t find many pubs and bars in Stockholm.But that doesn’t mean there is no nightlife. In fact, there is the nightlife in Stockholm and it’s great.

Many Stockholm restaurants turn into a bar once the last food is swallowed. Some pubs have live music. And if you prefer to dance, you’ll find some great clubs.
